5. The specific gravity
- Be’ shows the specific gravity of Sodium Silicates in liquid to be measured at20℃.
- Be(20℃) = [(20-t) × 0.04]
- When the TEMP is climbing, the specific gravity is going down.

6. Viscosity
According to the mole ratio and concentration and temperature,
The viscosity of sodium silicates in liquid is changed.
Viscosity is higher with high concentration.
Viscosity is lower with high temperature.
Viscosity will be increased by higher mole ratio at the same concentration.

7. pH
Normal pH ranges of Sodium Silicates in liquid are 11.5 ~ 13.0.
The pH value is different according to mole ratio and concentration, the pH value is increased when the mole ration is decreased.

8. Reaction with acid
pH to be lower by neutralization reaction with sodium silicates in liquid and acidity .
According to pH to be lower ionic polymerization (sio2) progresses,
viscosity is increased. In addition to that, gelation and precipitation of SiO2 are completed.

9. Reaction with metallic ions
Sodium silicates in liquid react with Mg, Al, Ca, Ba (metal ion),
In results, sodium silicates in liquid is to be gel and forms insoluble hydroxide and silicic acid at the same time..

10. Reaction with organic compounds
Glyoxal or ethylene-glycol-acetate, acetoacetic ?ester in alkali condition produce glycolic acid and acetate and make the galation of sodium silicate with neutralization.
When it reacts with methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, acetone, it can be gelation also. But the gelation is from dehydration simply, so it can be dissolved with water again.

11. Dehydration transition
Dehydration of sodium silicates in liquid can be occur at 1,000℃ above,
At 120~500'C, vesicular occurs, and then at 600~1000'C, vitrification occurs
but the basic properties are not changed.
95% is dehydrated at 200'C after that the slow dehydration to be followed.



1. A hardening material for soil
Because sodium silicates can harden the structure of polypore-soil by chemical reaction, it is used in LW, SGR, MSG and etc. When it is used in a multipurpose dam, coal mine, tunnel, excavating work in order to achieve hardening and stability of soil, sodium silicate can make the soil preserve the weight of superstructure and loss of sidewall and block the flowing of underground water.

2. Inorganic binder
Sodium silicate with excellent working efficiency, adhesive property and bond strength is used for glue in various raw materials. In addition to that, it can be used in refractories, heat insulator, inorganic paint, environment-friendly architecture and new inorganic-binder to be mixed with organic and in organic addition agent is under active development.

3. Paper and textile
Sodium silicate is used in recycling-paper for newspaper and textile industry in order to get effectiveness of de-inking, sizing, coating and bleaching agent with hydrogen.

4. Detergent and additive material for soap
Sodium silicate is used in a surface active agent for cleaning, softening of hard water and detergent. Applications are metal-cleaning, textile industry, laundry, cleaning of dairy equipment in variety. The basic properties of detergent application are buffer action, reducing interfacial tension, excellent emulsifying capacity and dispersion force. In addition to that, it is providing alkali to be need for making the contaminant saponifiable and neutralizing.

5. A hardening material for casting
Mixtures of sand-sodium silicate are hardened when we make mold and core by injecting Co2 gas into mixture of sand-sodium silicate in the casting industry. It is called the Co2 process. It is a chemical reaction of sodium silicate and Co2.

6. Silica sol and silica gel
Silica sol (colloidal silica) to be produced by reaction of an ion exchange resin can be use for decolor prevention, heat-resisting and improving hardness. Also, silica gel from acidizing can be used in an absorbent and desiccant, etc. We can get micro-silica when silica gel is smashed.

7. Sheath material of welding rod
It is used in a sheath material of welding rod and a binder of core wire.

8. ETC
It is raw material for functional product that contains white carbon. zeolite mainly
